We're a member-run communal garden in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn — dedicated to creating a vibrant green space where neighbors can connect, grow, and learn together.

Our Mission

At 61 Franklin Street Garden, our mission is to create a vibrant green space where neighbors can come together, connect with nature, and learn how to care for the environment — right here in the heart of Greenpoint. We believe that everyone deserves access to open, welcoming spaces and hands-on environmental education. Our garden is a place to grow plants, share knowledge, and build community.

What We Do

  • Build sustainably with rainwater harvesting and composting

  • Beautify our block with native plants and pollinator-friendly gardens

  • Host workshops on gardening, soil health, and green living

  • Grow fresh produce for our local community

Our Story

Once an overgrown, unused lot, our garden began in 2013 thanks to a passionate group of neighbors and support from local partners. What started as a cleanup effort has grown into a thriving community space where plants — and people — flourish together.

We’re a collaborative, community-run green space where neighbors come together to garden, learn, and share. We grow organic, native New York plants and support pollinators — and everything we harvest is shared with members and the local community.
